KCR Govt Playing With People's Lives: HC

KCR Govt Playing With People's Lives: HC

The Telangana high court on Wednesday once again expressed serious displeasure over the indifferent attitude of the Telangana government in containing the spread of Coronavirus and conducting tests for the disease.

“As we understand, the government is acting in such a way that the right to life of the people is curtailed,” the high court bench said.

It directed that the government should submit all the details of its measures to check the virus spread to the court by July 17.

“Otherwise, chief secretary, principal secretary (health), director of public health and commissioner of health should appear before the court,” the bench said.

The court felt that the government was defying the directions of the court given in the past.

“If it continues to be indifferent, we have to take action under contempt of court,” the bench said.

The high court wondered why the government was not taking up rapid antibody tests of blood samples that would give result within 10 minutes.

“How many units did the government buy and why these tests were not done till now?” the court asked.

Counsels for petitioners Chikkudu Prabhakar and Sriranga Poojitha brought to the notice of the court that the government had committed to conduct 50,000 tests in 10 days, but no tests were conducted for three days.

Angered with this, the high court bench asked the government as to how many tests were conducted between May 23 and June 23.

“How many samples were collected from primary and secondary contacts and how many tests were conducted as per ICMR guidelines,” the court asked.
