Journo who predicted life-threat to Jagan sacked!

A senior journalist, Patri Vasudevan, has been dismissed from Telugu news channel 99TV after claiming that assassination squads were operating in Andhra Pradesh with the intent to eliminate YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The journalist went into hiding shortly after receiving the termination letter, fearing a police crackdown, as an FIR had already been filed against him for allegedly spreading false information under the guise of news analysis.

In a controversial segment aired in early July, Vasudevan alleged—citing unnamed “central intelligence” sources—that around 200 sharpshooters from the U.S. had arrived in India to assassinate Jagan.

He further claimed that specific threats had been made against the former CM, and that two gangs—one from Haryana and another from Karnataka—had already entered Andhra Pradesh, awaiting the right moment to strike.

He also pointed to alleged security lapses, including the non-functioning of CCTV cameras around Jagan's Tadepalli residence, and suggested the elevated road near the house posed a threat.

His comments appeared to support YSRCP leaders’ claims that the current government was neglecting Jagan’s security.

However, analysts have slammed Vasudevan for what they call an unethical attempt to stir panic and gain online traction without credible evidence.

Legal experts say his comments could be construed as spreading malicious propaganda and threatening public order.

A criminal case has been registered, and Vasudevan has been served a notice under Section 41A of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), requiring him to appear before police and provide evidence supporting his claims.

Despite telling his employer he would cooperate, Vasudevan has since gone into hiding.

99TV, in an official statement, distanced itself from his remarks and confirmed that Vasudevan was terminated for failing to cooperate with legal proceedings.

The channel reiterated its commitment to journalistic ethics and stated it would not allow its platform to be misused for personal agendas or misinformation.

Authorities are now reviewing Vasudevan’s previous broadcasts and investigating his motives.

Police have indicated that strict legal action may follow to deter similar acts of irresponsible journalism in the future.
