Jhansi Reddy, mother-in-law of Palakurthy MLA Mamidala Yashaswini Reddy, is believed to be the real force behind the scenes.
Locals say Jhansi expects everyone to approach her first before meeting the MLA, and in many decisions, she acts as the final voice. Though she has no official role, her control is strong.
In fact, Jhansi Reddy is an NRI and could not contest the elections herself. So, she fielded her daughter-in-law Yashaswini Reddy as the candidate.
After winning the election, it appears Jhansi still holds the true desire for power, while Yashaswini remains mostly the face of the leadership.
Because of this, many people now call Jhansi the "shadow MLA" of Palakurthy.
Though Yashaswini Reddy is the elected leader, it is Jhansi who seems to guide, control and influence all key matters, making it clear where the actual power lies.
