Over the past few months, several YSR Congress Party leaders and officials who played key roles in decision-making during Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure have landed in jail in connection with various cases.
Life behind bars has proven to be far from easy for these political figures and officials, despite receiving certain privileges such as a separate bed, fan, mosquito net, and even home-cooked food.
The comfort and lifestyle they were accustomed to outside the prison walls are simply not available inside.
As a result, many of them tend to lose weight due to dietary restrictions, stress, and lack of proper sleep.
For some, this unintentional weight loss becomes a chance to improve their health — especially those who previously didn’t find time for workouts. For others, however, it leads to significant health concerns.
Take the case of Jagan’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD), P Krishna Mohan Reddy, who has been in Vijayawada jail for the past two months in connection with the alleged liquor scam that occurred during the Jagan administration.
According to sources, he has lost nearly seven kilograms during his time in jail.
“It’s not due to any physical exercise — he’s struggling to cope with the jail environment, especially due to age-related health issues. He’s said to be under considerable psychological pressure,” an insider revealed.
Similarly, senior IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu, who was arrested in connection with the alleged illegal detention of Mumbai-based actress Kadambari Jethwani, has also faced health complications.
Having undergone bypass surgery in the past, he was granted bail for 14 days, which was later extended by another two months on June 25.
“That said, being an IPS officer, he is otherwise physically fit and hasn’t lost much weight,” sources said.
Former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi also faced serious health issues during his 170-day stay in Vijayawada jail.
“He suffered from breathing problems, pneumonia, and other complications, and also lost significant weight. Even after his release last week, he remains hospitalized and is still receiving treatment,” sources added.
