Jagan vows to lay foundation for new capitals!

Even as the issue of three capitals for Andhra Pradesh is caught in the legal wrangle in the state high court which has extended status quo on the same till August 27, YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday vowed to carve out three capitals, come what may.

Jagan has not spoken out much about the three capitals issue except in the state assembly and in the official review meetings once or twice, though his cabinet colleagues, MLAs and even senior party leaders have been emphasising on the trifurcation of the capital time and again.

However, on Saturday, the chief minister disclosed his plans during his Independence Day speech in Vijayawada. He said his government had planned decentralised administration by creating three capital cities so as to do justice to all the three regions.

“Three capitals formation is the only way to undo the damage done by the bifurcation of the combined state. The people have received deep wounds due to bifurcation. They can be cured only with trifurcation of the state capital so that there would be decentralised development of the state,” Jagan said.

He said the three capitals bills passed by the state legislature have now become Acts.

“I am going to lay foundation stone for the executive capital at Visakhapatnam and judicial capital at Kurnool very shortly,” he asserted.
