Jagan to overhaul YSRCP, bring in reforms

The YSR Congress Party headed by former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy appears be getting ready for a complete overhaul and to witness internal reforms aimed at correcting organizational lapses.

According to party insiders in Tadepalli, Jagan is planning to revamp the party and give it a new shape, ahead of the next assembly elections. Though not officially announced, details of the proposed changes are beginning to surface.

Until now, decisions in the party flowed from the top, with MLAs, constituency in-charges, and ultimately Jagan Mohan Reddy having the final word.

But Jagan is reportedly considering a bottom-up decision-making model, giving importance to grassroots workers and local leaders in key decisions.

According to sources, the planned changes include:

1. Mandal-level meetings: Local decisions will not be taken without the approval of grassroots units.

2. Village-level Importance: Village leaders will be given recognition and included in decision-making to strengthen the party from the ground up.

3. New Selection Process: Candidate selection is to begin from village leaders to mandal leaders to the MLA level, reducing top-heavy dominance.

These measures are expected to reduce individual dominance, ensure decisions are based on ground realities, and empower local cadres. If implemented effectively, party insiders believe this could significantly strengthen the YSRCP.

Sources, however, said translating these reforms into practice remains the real challenge.

“All eyes are now on the crucial meeting scheduled for September 24, where Jagan is expected to issue directives on the future course of action,” sources said.

The meeting will be attended by regional coordinators, state general secretaries, Political Affairs Committee (PAC) members, district party presidents, parliamentary constituency observers, assembly and parliamentary constituency coordinators, and state secretaries (Coordination and Parliament).

During the session, Jagan will review contemporary political developments, discuss public issues, and outline the party’s strategy with senior leaders.
