Jagan To Do What Naidu Did Not

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to call for an all-party meeting on the capital issue. It is likely to be held on January 2, 2020, if the information available is of any indication.

Before holding this all-party meeting, he is scheduled to discuss the issue in the cabinet meeting scheduled for December 27.

Former chief minister and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, who zeroed in on Amaravati in 2014 December, did not think of holding such meetings.

He never had faith in the opposition parties. He never consulted them on any issue related to the capital.

Even when the core capital plan and construction was handed over to the Singapore consortium, Chandrababu Naidu did not take the opposition into confidence. He had even called the opposition parties as demons and never opened his doors for them.

The TDP supremo, as chief minister, never allowed the opposition parties even to walk on the Velagapudi roads.

There was no opposition at the Bhoomi Pooja or foundation ceremony for the capital city. He did not consult nor lend his ears to the opposition parties on the capital issues, despite the repeated pleas.

However, Jagan Mohan Reddy is learned to have decided on giving the expert committee report to the leaders of all parties and take their views.

According to the information available, the chief minister had made up his mind to convince the leaders of opposition parties in the State, on the three capitals proposal.

However, it is to be seen what the opposition parties would say when they are consulted on the core issue of the capital.

As of now, the TDP, Jana Sena and CPI are opposing the move, while the BJP had welcomed it. The CPM had not made its mind clear yet, while the Congress suffers lack of leadership and has no clarity what stand it should take.
