Jagan tightens loose ends, overhauls party

With just less than one-and-a-half years left for the next general elections in Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to tighten the loose ends in the party and make it strong to face the final battle.

It was evident from the way Jagan resorted to overhauling of the party organisation after an elaborate exercise.

As indicated at several party meetings in the recent past, he did not hesitate to show the door to district presidents and regional party coordinators, who did not live up to his expectations.

According to the list of the party presidents and regional coordinators the party has released late on Wednesday night, Jagan dropped his advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy and ex-ministers Kodali Nani and Anil Kumar Yadav from the posts of regional coordinators.

In their place, Jagan appointed Akepati Amarnath Reddy as the regional coordinator for Kurnool and Nandyal; Balineni Srinivas Reddy for YSR and Tirupati districts besides Nellore; Beeda Mastan Rao and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy for Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam; Marri Rajasekhar and Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy for Krishna, NTR and Guntur.

Besides, the YSRC chief changed district party presidents for eight districts, as they have failed to lead the party in their respective districts – K R J Bharat, Pushpa Sri Vani, Avanti Srinivas, M Sucharitha, Burra Madhusudhan Yadav, Y Balanagi Reddy, Kapu Ramachandra Reddy and Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy.

However, Jagan appointed Chevireddy as the joint coordinator of the state YSRC-affiliated organisations, as an assistant to general secretary V Vijay Sai Reddy.

The chief minister has been hinting at making major changes in the party at every meeting as he has been constantly reviewing the party performance at the district level. Besides, he has also been obtaining regular feedback from his I-PAC team on the performance of the leaders.

In the coming months, there would be more reviews and if the situation doesn’t improve, Jagan will not hesitate to completely overhaul the party ahead of the next elections, say sources.
