Jagan fast-forwards capital shift!

Jagan fast-forwards capital shift!

It looks like YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to fast forward the exercise of shifting the administrative capital of the state from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam.

Amidst reports that the Bharatiya Janata Party is planning to step into the agitation of Amaravati farmers against the capital shift and the high court is likely to intervene in the issue, Jagan quickly decided to prepone the cabinet meeting from Monday to Saturday to take a decision.

Within an hour of the high-power committee submitting its report to the chief minister, chief secretary Neelam Sawhney issued a notification calling for the cabinet meeting at 3 pm on Saturday.

The emergency cabinet meeting is obviously meant for discussing the report of the high-power ministerial committee and give its nod.

In all probability, the assembly session to be held on Monday will be a one-sided affair and the Jagan government will just bulldoze the “Decentralisation of administration bill” without bothering to the objections from the Telugu Desam Party.

“If necessary, the government will not hesitate to suspend the opposition members en masse and push the bills for approval. The session will end with Jagan making a statement projecting a road map for the three capitals formula,” sources said.

In all probability, the shifting process for the capital would commence by January 22 and the conduct of Republic Day celebrations at Visakhapatnam would be the final signal for the functioning of capital at the port city.
