Jagan doesn't use mobile phone, his counsel tells court

YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has turned the tables on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which tried to corner him by accusing him of giving a wrong mobile number to the court, which is conducting trial in his quid pro quo case.

Jagan recently travelled to London for 10 days after the CBI special court permitted a relaxation in his bail conditions.

However, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) later filed a petition before the same court, raising objections over the mobile phone number he had submitted before travelling abroad.

The CBI pointed out that the number provided this time differed from the one furnished during his earlier foreign visits, which violated the bail condition requiring him to remain accessible to the agency at all times.

While Jagan completed his London trip and returned to India, the CBI petition sought cancellation of his bail, alleging that he had deliberately changed his contact number without approval.

During the latest hearing, CBI lawyers argued that the accused had breached court directives, while Jagan’s defence counsel countered that the former Chief Minister “does not personally use any mobile phone” and had only provided a number through which he could be contacted.

The revelation reportedly left the CBI officials surprised.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the CBI court reserved its order and announced that the verdict will be delivered on October 28.

The ruling will determine whether Jagan’s actions amount to a violation of his bail conditions.
