How can CBI give leaks to media, asks Jagan advisor

Chief advisor to Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh Ajeya Kallam on Thursday expressed surprise over the reports in a section of media that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had questioned him in connection with the murder of former MP Y S Vivekananda Reddy.

Kallam admitted that a CBI official came to his residence and sought certain information with regard to the murder case.

“The CBI did not call me to its office, but a superintendent of police of the agency came to my residence after seeking my permission. Nobody else, except me and the CBI official, knows about his visit to my house,” the government advisor said.

He wondered how the CBI officer could leak the information to a section of media about his visit.

“How can the newspaper get the information, if not from the CBI officer? I am contemplating taking legal action in this regard,” he said.

Kallam said the CBI should have condemned the report that was published in the media.

“Who is responsible if the newspaper carries baseless reports, quoting the CBI sources? The agency should take action against such media,” he said.

He said the CBI had the responsibility of keeping the information collected as part of investigation completely confidential till it is submitted to the court.

“But I am shocked how the details which cannot be submitted to the court also are being leaked to the media,” he said.

Kallam said the CBI official asked him whether his statement could be recorded, but he refused the same, since such a statement would not stand legal scrutiny.

“I only gave information to the CBI official, though I had every right to refuse to talk to him,” he said.

The advisor refuted the reports that Jagan had told him and others in the meeting that Vivekananda Reddy had died of heart attack.

“All that he said was that Viveka was no more. We were all shocked and we came out of the meeting,” he said, adding that the same was informed to the CBI official.
