In a sudden and surprising development, senior YSR Congress party leader and former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams trust board chairman Y V Subba Reddy on Tuesday mooted a proposal to continue Hyderabad as the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for some more years.
He made the sensational demand at a press conference, saying Hyderabad should be continued as common capital of Telugu states until a new Capital is made in Visakhapatnam.
Subba Reddy, considered to be in the inner circle of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, said Hyderabad ceases to be the joint capital from June 2, 2024 and it would go to Telangana. He said that he would discuss the issue even in Rajya Sabha.
Incidentally, Subba Reddy is one of the three candidates who was fielded by Jagan on behalf of the YSR Congress. All the three candidates are most likely to get elected.
Subba Reddy said that Jagan was giving preference to people belonging to SC, ST, and BC sections of the society to get elected to the Parliament.
Last year, Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that Visakhapatnam will be the executive capital of Andhra Pradesh and the state’s administration would shift its headquarters from Amaravati, the current capital. This was in line with the state's decentralisation strategy aimed at fostering development across all regions.
