Fact Sheet: TDP MP Gets A Pat For AP Govt

A TDP MP must have thought that the Central government would provide statistics that would help his party to criticise the YSR Congress-led government in Andhra Pradesh.

TDP MP, Kesineni Srinivas, had raised a question in Lok Sabha on Tuesday seeking nationwide data on the farmers’ suicides for which Union Miniter for Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar gave a written reply.

The reply said that there was a considerable decline in the number of farmers suicides in Andhra Pradesh in the last three years of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s governance.

The statistics were a slap on the face of the TDP MP and a big pat on the back of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

The minister said that the farmers suicides were 628 in 2019, when Jagan Mohan Reddy took over the reins.

The number slowly slipped down to 564 in the subsequent 2020 year and went further down to 481 in 2021.

The Union Minister claimed that the increased budgetary allocation, launch of new schemes and the government’s initiatives helped in bringing down the number of suicides by the farmers in the country.

However, he revealed that agriculture is a state subject and the state governments have greater role to play.

He further said that the Centre is only supplementing the efforts of the states through various schemes and initiatives.

One wonders what the TDP MPs face was when he received a much disappointing reply from the Union Minister about the government!
