Fact Sheet: Four Chief Ministers follow Jagan

Surprisingly and shockingly for his critics, there are two chief ministers from the BJP-ruled states, who are supporting Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.

There is also a non-BJP chief minister, from Maharastra, Uddhav Thackeray, who is borrowing one initiative of Jagan Mohan Reddy these days.

The Maharastra chief minister had asked his officials to study the Disha Act made by the Jagan Mohan Reddy government and adopt or re-draft the same for his state.

Now, going back to the support from the two BJP chief ministers, the support is on the resolution to abolish Legislative Council (Upper House) and the decentralisation of administration (multiple capitals).

The chief ministers of BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka have backed Jagan Mohan Reddy’s resolution to abolish Legislative Council.

Interestingly, these two chief ministers are also having similar difficulties from the Legislative Councils in their states, as the Opposition parties hold majority.

Both Karnataka and UP chief ministers have already written to the Central leadership of the BJP seeking advice on dealing with the Legislative Councils.

However, now with Jagan Mohan Reddy taking lead, they are actively considering the proposal to abolish the Upper House in their states.

There is another chief minister, who is also not from the BJP, Hemant Soren, from Jharkhand, who had proposed four sub-capitals for his state besides the capital, Ranchi. Soren had proposed the most backward regions of the state to have sub-capitals.

He named Dumka, Medininagar, Chaibasa and Giridih cities for the sub-capitals, following in the footsteps of Jagan Mohan Reddy. He claimed that this decentralisation would help in the development of the State.
