Exodus continues in TDP, KE Prabhakar quits

The exodus of senior party leaders from Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh continues, shaking the party right from its roots in several districts.

On Friday, it was the turn of former minister and legislative council member from Kurnool K E Prabhakar to resign from the primary membership of the TDP.

He, along with his followers in the party, sent the resignation letter to party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

As usual, Prabhakar threw the blame on the party leadership for the sorry state affairs of the TDP in the state.

“There is no future for the party. It is not in a position to give party tickets to my followers in the mandal parishad, zilla parishad and Kurnool municipal corporation elections,” he told reporters.

Prabhakar is said to be of the view that the party has not been giving any recognition after the elections.

“There is no point in continuing in the TDP where my word doesn’t prevail. I will soon announce which party I would join,” he said.

While the general impression is that Prabhakar might join the YSR Congress party, some TDP leaders said he might be looking towards Bharatiya Janata Party.

Meanwhile, there are also reports that another TDP MLC P Samanthakamani from Singanamala in Anantapur district, along with her daughter Yamini Bala, a former MLA, are also getting ready to resign from the party.

Both of them, who have been holding a series of meetings with their followers, are likely to join the YSR Congress party in a day or two.

There were also reports that Naidu’s close follower and former minister from Prakasam district Siddha Raghava Rao might also join the YSRC, but he denied the reports.

There are likely to be more defections from the TDP in the next couple of days, sources said.
