Different poll predictions: What's real mood of voters?

As the elections to the state assembly and Lok Sabha in Andhra Pradesh are fast approaching, media groups along with survey agencies have started coming out with different predictions on the outcome of the polls.

According to the latest Times Now-Matrize NC Survey, the ruling YSR Congress party led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to win 19 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in the general elections, while the Telugu Desam Party-Jana Sena combine will win the remaining six seats.

The figure is largely different from the earlier survey conducted by Times Now, in association with ETG Research a month ago, when it predicted that the YSRCP would sweep the polls with 24-25 MP seats and the TDP ending up with one or no seat in the Lok Sabha.

Even if the YSRCP gets 19 MP seats, according to the latest survey, it will get around 130 assembly seats, which is more than the comfortable figure to come back to power for the second successive term.

As the YSRCP people are rejoiced over the Times Now survey, India Today group came out with its own Mood of the Nation survey results, which indicated a positive signal for the TDP.

According to this survey, the TDP is set to bag 45% votes, leading to victory in 17 seats, while the YSRCP is pegged at 41.1% votes with a total of 8 seats.

Similarly, Aaj Tak-C Voter also predicted that the TDP would get 45% votes and 17 MP seats and YSRCP 41.1% votes and 8 seats. This survey was done from 15 December 2023 to 28 January 2024, it claimed.

One wonders whether these surveys really reflect the real mood of the people, though both the parties are trying to put up a brave front showing these surveys.

YSRCP general secretary and advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said his party won’t rely too much on surveys and polls.

“We have been successful in turning surveys upside down in the past too…and we are sure to repeat history once again,” he said.
