Despite objections raised by Jana Sena Party president and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, his colleague Nadendla Manohar, and a few other ministers, it appears that Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu remains firm on acquiring additional land for the second phase of the Amaravati capital project.
During a recent cabinet meeting, diverse opinions emerged regarding the second phase of land pooling for Amaravati. Along with Pawan Kalyan, several ministers voiced concerns about strong resistance from farmers toward acquiring more land — at least for now.
Yielding to these concerns, Naidu reportedly directed officials to temporarily halt the additional land acquisition process and instructed a group of ministers to examine the farmers' objections.
However, the Chief Minister is said to have urged authorities to educate farmers thoroughly and persuade them to voluntarily participate in the pooling scheme.
“The government intends to address farmers' concerns and is reportedly preparing to acquire up to 20,000 acres in the initial phase. A notification is expected to be issued next week,” sources said, adding that Naidu wants to proceed only with full awareness and consent from farmers.
An announcement regarding "Amaravati 2.0" is expected before the Chief Minister departs for his upcoming trip to Singapore on July 26. There, he is scheduled to hold discussions on urban planning, beautification, landscaping, and port development.
Among the agenda items, Amaravati’s development is expected to be a central topic in discussions with the Singapore government. In light of these significant meetings, the land pooling notification is likely to be issued beforehand, sources added.
In the recent CRDA (Capital Region Development Authority) meeting, land pooling for seven villages in Thullur and Amaravati mandals was approved.
Under Section 55, Sub-section 2 of the APCRDA Act, the cabinet gave the green light to the pooling scheme within the CRDA region.
However, no official date was initially fixed for issuing the notification, creating uncertainty over the process. Now, the government is prepared to issue the land pooling notification by the end of this month and has outlined a detailed action plan.
The appointment process for Special Grade Deputy Collectors, Tahsildars, and Deputy Tahsildars for each revenue village has also been expedited, sources said.
