Corona handling: Tamilisai upset with KCR

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday expressed her serious dissastisfaction over the handling of Coronavirus pandemic situation in the state by K Chandrasekhar Rao government.

In an interview to a national channel, Tamilisai said the KCR government had not been pro-active in containing the spread of Coronavirus right from the beginning.

“The government has failed to assess the intensity of the Coronavirus situation in the state,” she said.

Stating that large scale testing for Covid-19 is the only way to contain the spread of the dreaded virus, the Governor said she had asked the government to do mobile testing in a big way, but her suggestion was hardly followed.

She said she had written at least five to six letters to the state government cautioning the authorities on intensity of Coronavirus and its rapid spread in the community, but there had not been much response from the state.

Tamilisai said the KCR government was defending itself saying it was conducting tests as per the guidelines of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Even in dealing with the containment zones, the government displayed an indifferent attitude, she alleged.

Stating that the people were going to private hospitals because there were no proper facilities in the government hospitals, the Governor said it appeared the Telangana government was not able to handle the burden of the Covid-19 treatment.

“Though the government has been saying that there were all facilities in the government hospitals, the patients were not evincing interest in going to these hospitals. I brought all these issues to the notice of the chief minister when he had met me recently,” Tamilisai said.
