Cops arrest journalist 'Dhatri Madhu' in APPSC case

Senior journalist Pamidikalva Madhusudhan, popularly known as Dhatri Madhu, owner of Dhatri Communications which used to telecast Andhra Pradesh assembly proceedings live since Y S Rajasekhar Reddy regime, was arrested by Andhra Pradesh police in connection with the alleged irregularities in the conduct of Group-I examination of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission.

The police picked up Madhu from his residence in Hyderabad and shifted him to Vijayawada.

He was named Accused No. 2 in the case, while A-1 was senior IPS officer and former APPSC chairman P S R Anjaneyulu, who has already been in jail in Kadambari Jethwani case.

Madhu, who is also a director and promoter of Camsign Media Private Ltd, was allegedly involved in the malpractices during the evaluation of Group-1 Mains answer sheets.

The firm allegedly secured the contract for manual evaluation of Group-I answer sheets at Highland Resorts through an irregular quotation process, violating standard protocols.

Preliminary investigations have revealed multiple discrepancies in their operations.

This scam was registered as an FIR at Suryaraopeta Police Station in Vijayawada, naming the then APPSC Secretary and senior IPS officer PSR Anjaneyulu as Accused No. 1 (A1).

The Group-1 aspirants challenged the results in the high court levelling serious allegations of perjury against the APPSC.

They said the APPSC supressed facts with regard to first manual evaluation and submitted false information on oath to the high court.

The APPSC withheld the results of the first manual evaluation and did the second manual evaluation only to select the candidates of their choice.

The high court had directed the APPSC in October 2021 to complete manual evaluation in three months. However, the APPSC told the high court that the manual evaluation process commenced on March 25, 2022.

The manual evaluation, in fact, was conducted between December 5, 2021 to February 26, 2022 but this fact was deliberately suppressed by the APPSC, alleged the petitioners.
