In a big boost to Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Central government has virtually endorsed his plan to construct houses for the poor in Amaravati capital region, even as the issue is still in the state high court.
According to reports from New Delhi, the central sanctioning and monitoring committee (CSMC) of the Union finance ministry on Monday gave the green signal for the construction of 47,000 houses in R-5 zone of Amaravati, which was created by the Jagan government after undertaking changes in the master plan.
Though the Supreme Court said the distribution of pattas and construction of houses would be subject to the final judgement of the high court and it would not amount to permanent title deeds, the Jagan government went ahead with the housing scheme under Navarathanaalu-Pedalandariki illu programme.
The chief minister, during his visit to New Delhi last month, represented to the Centre to sanction the houses in R-5 zone in Amaravati under the PM Awas Yojana.
Accordingly, the Centre sanctioned 47,000 houses out of the total number of 50,783 houses proposed by the state government.
The construction of remaining houses would also be approved in the next meeting, the Centre said.
While the Centre gives a grant of Rs 1.50 lakh for each house, the state government will contribute another Rs 30,000. So, it would cost Rs 705 crore for the construction of 47,000 houses in the first phase.
The reports said the chief minister is expected to lay foundation stone for the construction of houses on July 8, coinciding with the birth anniversary of his father and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The construction is going to take place at a rapid pace by using shear wall technology, so that the houses would be ready in three to four months – fetching huge political benefit to the ruling YSR Congress party!
