Seven years after former Andhra Pradesh minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy was murdered, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to begin the investigation into the incident all over again, sources said.
The CBI Special Court in Hyderabad on Tuesday reserved its order on a petition filed by Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter, Sunitha, seeking further investigation into key unanswered aspects of the case, as the agency has yet to conclude the investigation.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed the trial court to determine whether additional investigation was necessary, following Sunitha’s contention that the CBI had prematurely declared its probe complete without addressing critical leads.
Acting on this directive, Sunitha approached the Hyderabad CBI Court seeking supplementary investigation.
During Tuesday’s hearing, counsel representing Sunitha argued that the existing investigation was incomplete and risked letting the real culprits escape.
The counsel urged the court to order the CBI to file an additional charge sheet covering aspects that had not surfaced in the earlier filings.
Submitting that “sensational and crucial facts” remained unexamined, Sunitha’s lawyer insisted that only an extended investigation could uncover the full conspiracy behind the murder.
After hearing the arguments, the CBI Court reserved its judgment and fixed December 10 as the date for pronouncement.
The case has remained politically sensitive, with allegations and counter-allegations involving powerful figures in Andhra Pradesh.
The CBI’s earlier statement before the Supreme Court that its investigation was complete had caused significant disappointment for the family.
The upcoming court order is now expected to determine whether the CBI will be compelled to reopen investigative avenues in the long-running case.
