CAG to audit TTD accounts hereafter!

CAG to audit TTD accounts hereafter!

In a sensational move, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) trust board has recommended to the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government to entrust the auditing of TTD accounts to the Comptroller and Auditor General.

The decision was taken following a petition filed by BJP MP Subrahmanyam Swamy and others in the state high court asking for the auditing of TTD accounts by the CAG.

The petitioners alleged that there were largescale irregularities in the TTD funds during the Telugu Desam Party regime between 2014 and 2019. Swamy also wrote to the TTD in this regard.

Hitherto, the TTD had been getting its accounts audited by the state audit department but now, it has asked the government to entrust the auditing to the CAG including those accounts audited during 2014-20.

Though the TTD had not raised any objections on the state audit of the accounts till now, the board has decided to involve the CAG in the auditing with retrospective account from 2014 to remove any sort of apprehensions among the devotees.

It is yet to be known what decision the government would take on this recommendation from the TTD.
