A journalist in Andhra Pradesh was brutally murdered on Tuesday morning while out on his routine walk, in a shocking incident that has triggered widespread outrage.
Jaganmohan Reddy, associated with ABN Andhra Jyothy, was attacked by unidentified assailants in V Kota town of Chittoor district.
According to preliminary reports, a group of men chased him and stabbed him with sharp weapons, leaving him fatally injured. He was later found lying in a pool of blood.
Police said the attack took place in the early hours and was carried out by bike-borne assailants.
Superintendent of Police Tishar Dudi confirmed that multiple angles are being investigated, including the possibility of personal enmity, while other motives have not been ruled out.
The incident has drawn strong condemnation from journalist bodies and civil society groups, who have demanded swift and strict action against those responsible.
Authorities have formed six special teams to track down the accused, believed to be around 10 in number. District and intelligence units have also been deployed to assist in the investigation.
Senior officials have visited the crime scene, and forensic teams are collecting evidence. Police have assured that all efforts are underway to identify and arrest the perpetrators at the earliest.
