Botsa Inspects Stalled Amaravati Works: What's Up?

It has been more than a year since various infrastructure projects under construction at Amaravati came to a grinding halt, after the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government ordered stoppage of all the works.

The construction of residential villas for judges, iconic assembly and high court buildings and secretariat towers for which raft foundation was laid, the All India Service officers’ quarters and the MLA quarters and apart from apartments for non-gazetted officers and heads of departments were all abandoned in midway.

With projects coming to a halt, construction workers had left for other jobs and the construction companies had diverted all their machinery to other places as their bills remained uncleared with the AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA).

However, for the last two days, minister for municipal administration Botsa Satyanarayana along with APCRDA officials, have been visiting these projects and inspecting the pending works.

Interestingly, he also called the representatives of various construction firms which were forced to abandon the projects for a meeting. He also inspected the other infrastructure projects like Seed Access Road and other internal roads of Amaravati.

This led to the talk as to what the Jagan government is planning with Amaravati.

He has already made it clear that there is no change in the three capitals plan, as the assembly passed the bills even during the last week’s two-day budget session.

While Amaravati continues to be the legislative capital, it might not require the kind of structures that are under construction, as assembly session is hardly held for a few weeks all through the year.

May be Jagan is planning to complete the balance works on the incomplete structures and sell them to the interested firms, institutions and other commercial ventures which might develop the same in the coming years.

That would help the government make some money in this hour of financial crisis, say sources close to the government.
