BJP supports Kapu reservation in Andhra!

It appears the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been looking for issues to take up for its political growth in Andhra Pradesh, has at last found one – the long-pending demand for reservation for Kapus under BC quota.

On Monday, senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member G V L Narasimha Rao came down to Kirlampudi village in East Godavari district to meet former minister and Kapu strongman Mudragada Padmanabham to discuss the issue of reservations for Kapus.

Along with Mudragada, GVL also held discussions with some prominent leaders of the Kapu Joint Action Committee for over two hours. He gathered the details of the three-decades long agitation for Kapu reservations.

Speaking to reporters later, GVL demanded that chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy should focus on the justifiable demands of the Kapu community.

“It is unfortunate that the reservation for Kapus, which was there during the British regime, was removed later,” he regretted.

Stating that Kapu reservation issue was completely under the purview of the state government, the BJP MP reminded that during the TDP regime, the then government had adopted a resolution on Kapu reservations in the state assembly and sent parliament.

“But no decision was taken, as it is a state subject,” he said.

GVL said Kapu community doesn’t want to do injustice to any other caste or compete with other castes.

“They only want additional quota of reservations, more than what is being given to the BCs,” he said.

Stating that former chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had included Kapu quota issue twice in the Congress manifesto, the BJP leader requested that the Jagan government should consider the same and do justice to the community.
