Better shut down police department: Andhra HC

Better shut down police department: Andhra HC

The Andhra Pradesh high court on Monday came down heavily on the state police department, expressing extreme dissatisfaction with its handling of the Tirupati Parkamani case.

The court remarked that the police machinery appears to be “asleep” and even observed that “it would be better to shut down the department” if this is how it functions.

During the hearing, the bench lashed out at the Director General of Police (DGP) and the CID for failing to implement court orders issued on September 19, which had directed authorities to seize crucial records related to the case.

“Why were the court’s directions not implemented? Just because there is no Inspector General post in the CID, can orders be ignored?” the court asked sharply.

The bench observed that if there was genuine commitment, the DGP could have appointed an IG-level officer to execute the orders and seize the records.

It accused the police of colluding with the accused and facilitating the tampering of key evidence.

“The actions of the police themselves show how sincerely they are pursuing this investigation,” the court commented sarcastically.

The court then directed the CID DGP to seize all relevant records and produce them before the court, adjourning the hearing to October 17.

It also expressed severe anger over the failure to act on orders concerning irregularities in Parkamani, warning that continued negligence would not be tolerated.
