Recently, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu took a tough stance on indiscipline during a meeting with party leaders.
He pointed out that most issues are coming from newly elected MLAs, while senior leaders are following the rules.
He revealed that he had already summoned 35 legislators and issued them strict warnings.
“I will caution them once or twice, but if there is no change, I will be forced to take harsh action,” Naidu warned.
According to reports, the CM has been gathering constituency-wise performance reports.
Legislators and ministers facing public anger have been summoned, confronted with corruption and exploitation charges, and severely reprimanded.
While Naidu openly mentioned 35 MLAs, highly reliable sources indicate that the actual number is between 70 and 75.
Insiders say Naidu deliberately underplayed the figure in public to avoid sending negative signals to the people.
The fact that such a large number of MLAs are already under scrutiny within just a year of governance is said to be shocking.
Reliable sources mention that among those who faced Naidu’s wrath are MLAs from Ongole, Markapuram, Tiruvuru, Allagadda, Anantapur, Ponnur, and several other constituencies.
Although the government has been working to fulfill its promises to the people, Naidu senses that MLAs’ behavior is causing anti-incumbency.
The big question now is — will his stern warnings bring discipline and change, or will the disgruntled legislators, fearing denial of tickets, become even more reckless?
For now, Naidu’s unexpected summoning and grilling have left many legislators rattled. They are worried that the CM knows everything about their conduct and fear what comes next.
Whether this fear translates into reform — or further rebellion — remains to be seen in the days ahead.
