At Last, KCR Fulfils Promise On Retirement Age

After a gap of almost three years, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided fulfil his promise to enhance the retirement age of employees from 58 years to 60.

As per the chief minister’s promise, the first Pay Revision Commission constituted after the formation of Telangana state has recommended to the state government to increase the retirement age.

In fact, KCR had originally promised to increase the retirement age of all the government employees to 61, but later changed his mind. Now, it will be only 60 years, on par with the central government employees.

The PRC also recommended a fitment of 7.5 per cent on basic pay. Since the DA is merged as on July 1, 2018, the new scales come into operation from the same day.

The government may take a view on the date from which the financial benefit would accrue keeping in view its resource position and the various demands thereon.

The existing practice of following the Central government in sanctioning DA twice a year is to be continued.

The Central rates of DA are based on DA merged scales of January 1, 2016, in Telangana the DA merger took place on July 1, 2018 and it is now proposed that for the State employees, the Commission recommends a conversion factor of 0.910 for sanction of DA from January 1, 2019.

It means that for every one per cent increase in DA sanctioned by the Central government, the DA to be sanctioned by the State to its employees would be 0.910 % for the DA starting from January, 2019.

The PRC recommended that the Child Care Leave (CCL) be enhanced from 90 days to 120 days in the case of normal children. In case of disabled children, the CCL will be enhanced from 90 days to two years, on par with the Central government.

This leave will be granted with 100 per cent of the salary for the first 365 days and 80 per cent of the salary for the next 365 days.

The CCL will be extended to single male parents who may include unmarried or widower or divorcee employees.
