AP Cabinet Resolves To Fight For Krishna Water

The Andhra Pradesh state cabinet on Wednesday adopted a resolution to fight for the legitimate rights of the state on Krishna river and declared that there was no question of any compromise on utilising its due share of river waters.

The cabinet which met at the state secretariat under the leadership of chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy discussed at length the ongoing war of words between the two states on the projects being built on Krishna river.

The chief minister explained in detail the purpose of Rayalaseema lift irrigation scheme and the arguments of the Telangana against the same.

“We are not utilising even a single drop extra other than what has been allocated to us by the tribunal and the courts,” he said.

Stating that Andhra Pradesh would not give up its right on the Krishna waters, the chief minister found fault with the generation of hydel power by the Telangana government at Srisailam.

He asked the authorities to bring it to the notice of the Krishna River Management Board and said he would also write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.

When several ministers brought to his notice about the aggressive statements being made by the Telangana ministers, Jagan said he was maintaining restraint keeping in view Andhra people staying in Telangana and they should not feel the trouble due to the dispute between the two states.

He asserted that the disputes would have to be resolved amicably through negotiations and through apex council.
