AP assembly session: Jagan to take call on capital shift?

The winter session of the Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly, which is going to commence on November 18, instead of November 17 as decided earlier, is expected to be crucial, as the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government is likely to make some important announcements.

The winter session is expected to last a week and if necessary, it could be extended by a couple of days as decided at the Business Advisory Committee meeting. The session will take place strictly as per the Covid-19 protocol.

According to sources, Jagan is likely to make an important announcement on the three capitals issue, without having prejudice to the hearing on the issue in the state high court. He may announce a road map for the formation of three capitals.

“Particularly, Jagan is likely to announce the shifting of his camp office from Tadepalli to Visakhapatnam by the year end. He would explain how the Centre, too, has indirectly endorsed his decision to shift the executive capital at Visakhapatnam,” sources said.

He would also discuss the steps to be taken in developing Amaravati as the legislative capital and Kurnool as the judicial capital, subject to the outcome of the high court verdict.

“This is to send a clear message to the people ending uncertainty on the three capital issue,” sources said.

The Jagan government is also planning to introduce several bills concerned with the future of the state, during the winter session. It will also introduce a couple of resolutions to be adopted by the assembly.

The bills and the resolutions would be ratified at the state cabinet meeting to be held a day before the commencement of the assembly session.

It would be interesting to see whether Telugu Desam Party would attend the winter session of the assembly at least this time.

It had boycotted the previous sessions alleging that the ruling YSRC had been unleashing attacks on the TDP leaders and cadre, leading to deterioration of law and order.

This time, too, the chances of the TDP attending the assembly session are bleak, say sources.
