Amaravati farmers up in arms against APCRDA

Even as the coalition government claims to be putting Amaravati capital works on the fast track, Amaravati farmers have accused the AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) of neglecting core farmer issues.

The farmers have revived their Joint Action Committee (JAC) — which was highly active during the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy regime — and met in Guntur on Sunday.

During the meeting, they passed a resolution condemning the APCRDA’s indifferent attitude and issued a 10-day deadline for initiating a structured dialogue with top political leadership.

According to the JAC, despite a change of government more than a year ago, “several farmer-related problems remain unresolved” — including the plight of assigned landholders, regularisation and timely payment of annuities or lease amounts, plots affected by road alignments, delays and errors in plot allotment, village common land disputes, and what they described as an “ill-conceived FSI framework.”

The JAC alleged a “rise in corruption” within the APCRDA and “apathy” among officials, stating that repeated petitions to CRDA authorities and Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana had produced little to no results.

The committee demanded that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Narayana hold a joint meeting within 10 days to set timelines and begin implementation. They also called for a bimonthly joint review with the farmers’ JAC to monitor progress.

If the government fails to respond within the deadline, the JAC warned it would convene a large gathering of farmers and agricultural labourers who gave their land under pooling to decide the next phase of the agitation.
