Amaravati capital impossible, says former Union minister

Veteran Congress leader and former Union minister Chinta Mohan expressed doubts over the construction of Amaravati as an ultra-modern international capital city, as it is not feasible to construct high-rise buildings there.

Speaking to reporters, Chinta Mohan said it was not possible to construct 50-storey buildings along the Krishna river, as earth is very shallow and digging up to 10 feet would result in flooding. The area doesn’t support expensive infrastructure, he said.

He compared Chandrababu’s urban city dreams to failed models in Australia and Malaysia, stating that building Amaravati as a capital is unrealistic. He accused Naidu of having lost political rhythm and direction

Chinta Mohan alleged that ministers and their proxies bought 100–200 acres around Amaravati and that the chief minister wanted to build Amaravati only to increase land values.

He criticized the government for spending all the ₹57,000 crore borrowed with guarantees only in Guntur district, despite the fact that people in 26 districts pay taxes.

The former Union minister also slammed Chandrababu Naidu for boasting about zero corruption. In Kuppam, Naidu’s own constituency, no work is done in police stations or tahsildar offices without bribes.

He alleged that 90% of MLAs and ministers are focused on personal gains, and that the Super Six governance model is failing. He described Naidu as a CM of words, not of actions.

He also claimed that Naidu had houses in Hyderabad, Amaravati, and Kuppam, and mocked him for painting Indiramma houses (given to the poor by Congress) in yellow.

He alleged that officers have no freedom and that even for minor permissions, they look toward Amaravati.

He also claimed that police were not allowing political parties to use microphones, suggesting that democracy was crushed under the coalition government.

Chinta Mohan questioned what Chandrababu Naidu had accomplished in 30 years as MLA, minister, and CM for Kuppam, Chittoor district, or Andhra Pradesh.

He criticized the claim that Naidu supported OBCs, pointing out that giving a few posts doesn’t mean prioritizing the community.

He challenged Naidu to name even one OBC person made a millionaire under his rule.

He questioned how someone who couldn’t reduce poverty in his own Kuppam constituency could be trusted to eradicate poverty across Andhra Pradesh.
