After HC verdict, Amaravati farmers change slogan

“Save Amaravati-Save Andhra Pradesh” had been the slogan of the Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi, a farmers’ joint action committee, which was fighting the battle for retention of Andhra Pradesh capital city at Amaravati, all these days.

The farmers’ JAC had been using this slogan on all its flags, banners and tents for highlighting their demand. Even in the social media, this slogan had been trending among the Telugus across the country and even abroad.

Now that the Andhra Pradesh high court has given the verdict in their favour and declared Amaravati as the state capital, the Amaravati JAC has decided to change its slogan: “Save Andhra Pradesh-Build Amaravati,” in order to build pressure on the Jagan government to follow the high court directions.

The JAC leaders are now saying that though the high court gave the judgement in their favour, they do not give up their agitation till the government announces its decision to continue Amaravati as the state capital and drop its three capitals’ plan altogether.

The JAC leaders also planning to meet leaders of all the political parties and request their intervention in prevailing upon the government to honour the high court judgement and not to waste time by moving the Supreme Court.

TDP president and former chief minister N Chandraababu Naidu said Amaravati is the only capital city of the state and it is permanent. Nobody can move it further.

“If Jagan wants to defy the order, he has to stand before the court of law as guilty,” he asserted.
