3-capitals plan continues to hang in balance!

The much-publicised plan of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government to create three capitals for Andhra Pradesh continues to hang in balance.

The state high court on Monday extended the status quo on the capital shift for another two weeks – till October 5, pending hearing of several petitions filed by Amaravati farmers, seeking to stall the three capitals plan.

The division bench of the high court led by chief justice J K Maheshwari deferred the hearings to October 5, stating that it would take up daily hearings from that date on the petitions filed by Amaravati Rythu Parirakshana Samithi, former MLA Sravan Kumar and others.

As many as 93 petitions were listed before the high court on Monday and the court said it was possible to take up hearings on them at a time.

The petitioners questioned decentralisation of admission bills and CRDA abolition bill, besides the legal sanctity of the G N Rao committee and high power committee.

The petitioners questioned the violation of agreement made by APCRDA with the farmers, deviation of master plan in the state capital region and lack of creation of infrastructure facilities in the region.

The state government, however, is requesting the court to permit the construction of guest house at Kapuluppada in Visakhapatnam, irrespective of whether the capital is shifted or not.
