War 2 Economics: Biggest Loss To Telugu Buyers?

War 2 Economics: Biggest Loss To Telugu Buyers?

War 2 has been mounted on a massive budget of about Rs 400 crore, with Hrithik Roshan opting for a profit sharing arrangement instead of a large upfront fee.

On the non-theatrical front, including digital and satellite rights, the film is expected to recover around Rs 200 crore, giving it a crucial safety net.

Theatrical numbers present a more uneven story. The film is projected to earn about Rs 75 crore net share from the Indian domestic market excluding AP and TS.

In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the rights were sold outright for Rs 80 crore, while overseas markets are likely to bring in around Rs 35 crore net share.

Combined, the recoveries add up to more than Rs 390 crore.

For Yash Raj Films, the producers, the overall outcome suggests either very minor losses or a break even scenario, depending on how much higher the non-theatrical recoveries turn out.

The Andhra Pradesh and Telangana distributor, however, is staring at losses of more than Rs 50 crore. Industry talk indicates the deal could be renegotiated, with YRF possibly absorbing a part of the deficit.

For Hrithik Roshan, the underwhelming theatrical numbers could also mean a dent in his market value, despite choosing a profit sharing model over upfront payment.
