Kamal Haasan’s recent comment that “Kannada was born out of Tamil” has sparked controversy in Karnataka.
The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) demanded an apology from the veteran actor, threatening to block the release of his upcoming film Thug Life in the state if he didn’t comply.
However, Kamal Haasan has firmly refused to apologise unless proven wrong, stating, "If I'm wrong, I'll apologise. If I'm not, I won't. This is my lifestyle."
Haasan explained that his statement was made in the context of his family and cultural ties, including actor Shivarajkumar from Karnataka.
Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life is set for release on June 5, 2025, in multiple languages including Kannada. The controversy raises questions about whether the film will get a smooth release in Karnataka.
The film stars an ensemble cast including Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, and others. The situation remains tense as fans and officials await the final decision.
