Senior YSR Congress Party leader and Rajya Sabha member Y V Subba Reddy is often spoken of within the party as the man whose whereabouts and activities remain largely unknown, yet he always seems to hold a key position.
Whether YSRCP is in power or not, Subba Reddy has consistently enjoyed political posts — making him one of the biggest beneficiaries of the party.
The irony, leaders whisper, is that while the party has helped him immensely, his contribution to YSRCP’s troubles has been negligible.
When YSRCP came to power, Jagan Mohan Reddy appointed Subba Reddy as chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). He held the position for four years.
Sources say that Jagan eventually had to remove him because it would not look good to keep his maternal uncle in such a prestigious post for a full five-year term.
Otherwise, insiders believe Subba Reddy might have remained TTD chairman as long as Jagan was chief minister.
In 2024, Subba Reddy was unanimously elected to the Rajya Sabha on behalf of YSRCP and was also appointed the party’s parliamentary leader.
During YSRCP’s tenure in power, his son Vikranth Reddy reportedly made huge gains in the mining business in North Andhra, sparking widespread criticism at the time.
Observers point out that among those most carefully looked after by Jagan during his rule were the families of Subba Reddy and Balineni Srinivasa Reddy.
However, Balineni has since parted ways with Jagan and joined the Jana Sena. Subba Reddy, in contrast, has never made that mistake.
He has remained in YSRCP, maintaining a low profile and staying clear of controversies — “like a drop of water on a lotus leaf,” as some put it.
While YSRCP leaders, including Jagan, are now struggling with political challenges, there is no evidence of Subba Reddy ever addressing the party’s troubles on the national stage in Delhi.
Despite this, within YSRCP circles, many admit that the most fortunate man in the party has always been Y V Subba Reddy.
