Bollywood has produced countless superstars whose blockbusters have defined generations.
Every aspiring actor dreams of being celebrated for hits—but one legendary star holds an unusual record.
He rose to fame in the era of Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor, earned a cult following overseas, and delivered one of Russia’s biggest box-office sensations. Yet, he is also known as the actor with the most flops in Indian cinema.
That actor is Mithun Chakraborty.
Across a five-decade career, Mithun has acted in more than 350 films spanning Hindi, Bengali, Odia, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Punjabi.
Despite his versatility and massive popularity, reports say he has delivered 180 flops and 47 disasters—the highest for any Indian actor.
Still, he remains a beloved superstar, thanks to iconic films like Disco Dancer, which became a historic blockbuster, especially in Russia.
Interestingly, Mithun once revealed that he never watched most of his own work.
“I have done more than 370 films, out of which I haven’t seen about 200 to date. Many of those films completed Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee runs, and some ran for two years. But in every film, I worked with full honesty and dedication,” he said.
Most recently, Mithun appeared in The Bengal Files, the third instalment of Vivek Agnihotri’s franchise. Despite the hype, the film failed commercially and ended as a box-office disaster.
