TDP Rule In Telangana: Is Naidu Overconfident?

Chandrababu Naidu seems quite confident after his victory in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh elections.

He now appears to be setting his sights on Telangana, aiming to make a mark in the 2029 elections.

To this end, he is reportedly planning to field strong leaders in the state. But the big question is — who is ready to join him?

Almost all former Telangana TDP leaders are currently with either the BJP or Congress.

Chandrababu seems to believe that those who feel sidelined in their current parties, having not been given prominent roles, might return to the TDP.

He might also hope that some candidates in Congress and BRS, who sense their parties might not win, could switch allegiance to the TDP.

However, such political jumps usually don't happen until about six months before elections. Until then, the challenge is how Chandrababu plans to revive the hibernating TDP in Telangana.

Recently, he said- "Telugu Desam Party has its roots in Telangana, with its inception taking place at the MLA quarters in Hyderabad. No matter where Telugu-speaking people live, TDP has always stood by them. I confidently assure you that the party will actively participate in the next Telangana elections."

So, is Chandrababu being overconfident or realistic? Will he contest with the BJP in alliance, or go it alone? That remains to be seen.

He might aim to split votes and play the role of kingmaker, even if not winning the state outright. After all, CBN is known for crafting alliances — rarely has he fought a major battle without one.
