The public meeting of Y S Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, at Khammam on Friday evening was a big success by all means, going by the crowds and also the response she got from them.
It was quite natural that Sharmila had to attack the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi to project her forthcoming party and out of 40 minutes that she spoke, she dedicated nearly 30 minutes only to attack the TRS and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Surprisingly, she did not speak much about the existing opposition parties like the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, because she thinks there is virtually no opposition in Telangana and it was to fill this void, she is launching a new regional party.
She said she was compelled to launch a political party to fight for the aspirations of the people, which remained unfulfilled even seven years after the formation of Telangana.
She said all the existing opposition parties had miserably failed to question the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi which betrayed the people.
While she virtually discounted the Congress, her main point of attack appears to be the BJP because if the saffron party emerges as a formidable opposition by the next elections, there will be no takers for her party.
Sources said in the coming days, she would target the BJP more because she wants to establish her party as the only opposition in the state. Otherwise, there would be a split in the anti-establishment vote and it would only help the TRS.
