While Ram Gopal Varma is celebrated for his early cinematic classics, in recent years he has become more known for his controversial remarks and provocative social media posts — particularly those involving women and their appearances.
Following the release of the War 2 teaser, Varma once again courted controversy with a lewd comment.
Sharing a still of Kiara Advani in a bikini, showing her back, he posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the film would be a bigger hit if Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR were fighting over “her back” rather than for their country.
He wrote: “Instead of for countries and societies, if the WAR between @iHrithik and #tarak9999 is on who gets her BACK, then 2 will be a Backbuster (sic).”
The remark sparked immediate backlash, with many slamming Varma for objectifying the actress and making inappropriate comments.
Amid growing criticism, Varma quietly deleted the post in the early hours of Wednesday.
