Pedarayudu: When Rajini Touched Mohan Babu's Feet

Mohan Babu and Rajinikanth are very good friends since their early struggling days in film industry.

The duo acted together in few films, but Pedarayudu stood as an industry hit breaking previous box office records.

The film directed by Ravi Raja Pinisetty and produced by Mohan Babu himself completes silver jubilee (25 years) today.

Recollecting the memories, Mohan Babu revealed how the film happened and how Rajinikanth came on board.

Mohan Babu said that it was Rajini who recommended him to watch Tamil hit Nattamai and think over remaking it, besides coming forward to play the guest appearance as his father.

The flashback indeed played major role in Pedarayudu turning out to be such a colossal hit.

Mohan Babu’s good friend Ravi Raja Pinisetty initially had his own inhibitions, though he liked the script.

Mohan Babu even approached B Gopal to direct the film, but the latter was reluctant to take up the task.

Then, the very next day, Ravi Raja Pinisetty accepted to direct the film, with a proposal of making few changes to the script with help of dialogue writer Satyamurthy.

When Mohan Babu was facing financial hardship, it was again Rajini who lent him Rs 45 lakhs to complete the film.

Sr NTR who was the chief minister then had attended all the prime events of the film to bless Mohan Babu.

Mohan Babu also recalled a memorable incident that took place on the day of the film’s launch.

When the opening shot was canned, Mohan Babu as per the scene offered garland to his on-screen father Rajinikanth who later offered the same garland to Mohan Babu and then touched his feet as a mark of respect for his kind heart.

“I still have that photo,” says Mohan Babu who’s touched by the gesture and feels proud of his friend.

Music director Koti also shared his experiences of working for the film.
