OTTs Struggling: Prime Video to Add Advertisements Soon

Amazon has announced that Prime Video content will begin including limited advertisements from June 17, 2025.

Despite users paying for subscriptions, streaming platforms like Prime Video are struggling to break even.

Without commercial ads, many OTT services are finding it hard to recover the high costs of producing and licensing shows and movies.

Prime Video says that adding ads will help it invest in better content over time. It also promises fewer ads than regular TV and other streaming platforms.

There will be no change in the current Prime membership cost, and users don’t need to take any action.

For those who prefer an ad-free experience, Amazon will offer a new add-on plan. Viewers can pay Rs 699 per year or Rs 129 per month to remove ads from Prime Video content.

However, some content like Amazon MX Player shows will still have ads even with the ad-free plan.
