OTT Watchlist: Nizhal, Not Thrilling Enough

'Nizhal' is another thriller from Malayalam that is streaming on Amazon.

Malayalam thrillers mostly follow the Korean style of movie-making, there are also allegations that some of the Malayalam filmmakers are also copying old Korean thrillers. That said apart, Malayalam cinema has consistently been delivering good cinema lately.

“Nizhal” stars Nayanthara and Kunchako Boban (he recently appeared in ‘Nayattu’. Read our review: Nayattu - The Power Of Malayalam Cinema) in the lead roles.

Directed by first-time filmmaker Appu N. Bhattathiri, “Nizhal” begins well and maintains suspense up to the middle portion.

The beginning portions are intriguing. But thriller lacks effectiveness in the later moments and turns out to be an average movie.

Justice John Baby (Kunchako Boban), a magistrate who is recovering from an accident, gets a call from a child psychologist. The psychologist informs him that a school student is narrating strange murder stories.

John Baby goes to the child Nithin’s house and his mother Sharmila (Nayanathara) reluctantly welcomes him. The child stories turn out to be real. After much investigation, it is found that it is Sharmila who is feeding the stories to her son. What happens next?

Kunchako Boban as Justice and Nayanathara as an IT professional and mother give fine performances.

The thriller requires a lot of patience. It has an interesting premise but does not have the thrilling factor in the end.
