OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hotstar are becoming increasingly assertive in the Telugu film industry, enforcing tight schedules and strict conditions.
With significant amounts being spent on acquiring digital rights, these streaming giants are now influencing everything — from production timelines to theatrical release dates.
For instance, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, a film plagued by delays and financial issues, is reportedly under pressure from Amazon Prime.
The platform, which holds its streaming rights, has set a hard deadline, demanding the film hit theaters before the end of July to ensure an August OTT release.
Similarly, Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom is facing pressure from Netflix.
Due to repeated postponements, the platform is reportedly considering a reduction in the agreed-upon deal if the delays persist. The film is expected to release before mid-August.
Amazon Prime has also allegedly influenced the release strategy of Ghaati, another Telugu film, pushing for a specific theatrical window to align with its streaming schedule.
