NTR: No Vaccine For Road Accidents

Jr NTR made his presence in a non filmy event and spoke in a responsible way on the dias.

At their first Cyberabad traffic police annual conference on Wednesday, Tollywood actor Junior NTR emphasised on the need for responsible driving while recounting the road accident deaths of two of his family members.

The actor attended the event organised at a convention centre in Gachibowli. The actor recounted the road accident deaths of his father Nandamuri Hari Krishna and his brother Nandamuri Janaki Ram at the event.

In a serious tone, the actor expressed, "I have come here not as an actor but as a person who lost two family members in road accidents. My brother, who is a very careful driver, lost his life when his car rammed into a tractor which came in the wrong direction on the national highway. My father who drove my grandfather's vehicle for 33,000 kilometers across the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh without a single accident, also lost his life in a road accident. There is a vaccine to Covid-19 but there is no vaccine for road accidents. When you come out of home in a vehicle always remember that your family is waiting for you at home. We have to feel responsible and follow good road safety procedures to safeguard ourselves".

At the event, he flagged off two highway patrol vehicles which will be deployed on Hyderabad-Bijapur highway.

Additional DG Railways and Road Safety, Sandeep Shandilya said that the road accident fatality rate in Cyberabad is nearly 34 per 100 accidents and currently the aim is to reduce it to 24 per 100 accidents to save more lives. There are 7,000 drunken driving cases registered in Cyberabad in the last two months and it has reduced road accidents.

Cyberabad commissioner VC Sajjanar said that they are placing special focus on hit and run cases and Cyberabad police are also very strict in cancellation of driving licenses of the traffic rule violators. Two road accident victims told the gathering how wearing helmets saved their lives and Sajjanar mentioned that by establishing road safety check posts, police made more than 10,000 motorists to buy helmets.

At the event, a new initiative 'Save Accident Victims on the Road' (SAVIOR) was launched to spread the importance of golden hour treatment. Malcolm Wolfe of Streetwise driving school said instead of testing 24 skills to grant a license, we are currently checking only three skills to give a driver's license.
