There have been strong rumours that director Bobby was planning to rope in Mohanlal for a key role in his next film with Megastar Chiranjeevi, tentatively called #ChiruBobby2.
The project was announced some time ago and generated buzz due to the possibility of this high-profile collaboration. However, the latest updates suggest that this casting may no longer be on the cards.
According to industry talk, the film’s budget is now being significantly trimmed, prompting changes to the storyline as well.
As a result, the makers are said to be reworking key characters to suit the revised scale of the project.
Mohanlal, one of the biggest names in Indian cinema, shares a close friendship with Chiranjeevi. However, securing him for a substantial role would be financially challenging.
Reports suggest that Mohanlal charges over Rs 30 crore for a supporting role, making it difficult for the makers to accommodate him within the reduced budget, unless it is a brief cameo.
Given the circumstances, the team is reportedly considering a prominent Telugu star for the role instead.
There is also speculation that the makers may approach an actor who would be willing to do the part without remuneration, purely out of respect for Chiranjeevi.
In Waltair Veerayya, Ravi Teja played a crucial role and was paid a respectable fee.
At that time, the OTT market was strong and the film went on to become a commercial success, helping the producers manage the budget effectively.
With the current market dynamics being different, the makers of #ChiruBobby2 appear to be opting for a more cost-conscious approach.
