Nimmagadda Vengeance Against Jagan Continues!

The Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh has softened its stand on the conduct of local body elections in the state, but State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar continues to adopt a vengeful attitude towards the government.

On Monday night, the Jagan government proposed to transfer two senior IAS officers – panchayat raj principal secretary Gopala Krishna Dwivedi and panchayat raj commissioner M Girija Shankar, who defied the orders of Nimmagadda in the past, as the latter had hinted at acting against them.

But surprisingly, Nimmagadda rejected the proposals of the Jagan government saying that it was not proper to transfer the officials in the midst of elections. His argument is that if the transfers have to be done, they should be done following the set procedure of the Commission.

However, Nimmagadda had something else in his mind. He did not want just transfers, but wanted to give bigger punishment to the two IAS officers. Within a couple of hours, he gave fresh orders seeking to censure Dwivedi and Girija Shankar for their dereliction of duties.

He said both the IAS officers had not fulfilled the assurance placed before the high court for the preparation of revised electoral rolls.

“Having no other way, the commission had to fall back on 2019 electoral rolls instead of 2021 electoral rolls,” he said.

He pointed out that because of the dereliction of duties by Dwivedi and Girija Shankar, about 3.62 lakh predominantly new voters lost their voting chances.

“In view of this, the Commission decided to censure the two IAS officers by invoking its plenary powers. They are unsuited to discharge their responsibilities as they lacked the qualities of mind and heart as evidenced time and again. This censure will form part of their Service Record,” he said.
