Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR’s Thug Life, which released on June 5, 2025, has underperformed at the box office, prompting Netflix to re-negotiate its post-theatrical streaming deal.
According to sources, Netflix is considering a revision of the earlier agreed amount, with a proposed reduction of 20-25% from the original Rs 130 crore deal.
The initial price was quoted due to the high expectations surrounding Kamal Haasan and director Mani Ratnam’s reunion after Nayakan, but the film received mixed reviews upon release.
With underwhelming box office collections, the OTT platform is reassessing the value of the digital rights.
While the film was earlier expected to stream after eight weeks of theatrical release, reports suggest the streaming window may now be advanced to just four weeks.
Thug Life follows the story of crime boss Rangaraaya Sakthivel, who raises an orphaned boy, Amaran, as his own. As Amaran grows into a powerful mafia figure, tensions rise between father and son, leading to a violent conflict.
The film features a stellar ensemble cast including Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, and Ali Fazal.
Looking ahead, Kamal Haasan is gearing up for his next project, KH237, directed by the AnbArivu duo.
Meanwhile, Silambarasan is in talks to collaborate with director Vetrimaaran on an upcoming action film and has multiple projects lined up.
