Naveen Was 1st Choice For Yevade Subrahmanyam: Nag Ashwin

Director Nag Ashwin who made critically acclaimed and commercially successful films like Yevade Subrahmanyam, Mahanati and is gearing up to direct Prabhas in a Pan India film has turned producer with Jathi Ratnalu directed by Anudeep KV. The film is releasing worldwide on 11th of this month as Maha Shivaratri attraction.

Nag Ashwin says he enjoys watching comedy films and Jandhyala, SV Krishna Reddy are his favorite directors. “I loved a short film made by Anudeep. So, I had approached him to make a completely hilarious entertainer. Anudeep briefed me a story idea and we developed it to make the film.”

Nag Ashwin says since he had been travelling with the director for long on the story, he used to give some inputs. “Anudeep gave me three options on titles and Jathi Ratnalu is one among them. Since we felt, Jathi Ratnalu has a special vibe to make good business. We finalized it.”

He also informs that Jathi Ratnalu will be an out and out entertainer. Disclosing the storyline he said, “Three silly fellows stuck in a serious crime and how they come out of it forms the crux of the story.”

Nag Ashwin says he initially wanted to make his first film Yevade Subrahmanyam with Naveen Polishetty and Vijay Deverakonda, but it didn’t materialize due to some reasons. “When Naveen was doing Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya, we approached him for Jathi Ratnalu and he immediately agreed to come on board to play one of the lead roles. Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna were finalized later.”

He affirms that like his every film Jathi Ratnalu too will have a good message. Nag Ashwin says they have plans of dubbing and releasing the film I Hindi, since Naveen has good market in Hindi. “After releasing the film here, we are planning to dub and release it in Hindi.”

Nag Ashwin is all praises for hero Prabhas. “Prabhas is a very jovial person. He doesn’t think much about business equations and box office openings. He doesn’t have much interest on social media as well. Whenever we meet, he talks about our films and the stories of other films he is doing.”
